The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has elected a president, chair, treasurer, and four members to its council. The NAE Council is the governing body of the NAE with oversight for general policies and programs and all funds administered by the NAE. All terms begin July 1, 2025.

Newly elected to serve a six-year term as NAE President is Tsu-Jae King Liu, former dean and Roy W. Carlson Professor of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.

James (Jim) O. Ellis Jr., retired U.S. Navy admiral and Annenberg Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution, has been elected to serve a one-year term as NAE Chair. Ellis is a former board chair of Level 3 Communications and served on the board of Lockheed Martin Corporation and Dominion Energy. In 2006, he became a member of the Military Advisory Panel to the Iraq Study Group. In 2009, he completed three years of service on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board.

Ellis previously completed six years of service as a councillor. He succeeds Erroll B. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Roger McCarthy, founder and owner of McCarthy Engineering and a board member at Shui on Land Ltd., who has been re-elected to a four-year term as NAE Treasurer.

Dianne Chong, former Vice President of Boeing Research & Technology within Boeing’s Engineering, Operations & Technology organization, and Susan Graham, Pehong Chen Distinguished Professor Emerita in the Computer Science Division of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, have both been re-elected to serve a second term as NAE Councillors. Newly elected to serve three-year terms as councillors are David Dzombak, Hamerschlag University Professor Emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University, and Eric Fossum, Krehbiel Prof of Engineering and Vice Provost for Eship and Tech Transfer at Dartmouth College.
