Biography

Leigh Anne Brewster is a University School Assistant Professor at P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School. She is a veteran teacher, having taught over 20 years in K-12 public education, specifically studying how to effectively engage underrepresented youth in STEM. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she serves as advisor and coach to a high-school robotics team. Leigh Anne’s work has been recognized via the 2021 OnShape Community Impact Award. She was also selected as the 2024 P.K. Yonge Secondary School Teacher of the Year and received a 2024 Division Two University of Florida Superior Accomplishment Award. Leigh Anne received her MEd degree from Mary Baldwin University in 2006 and her EdS in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech in 2013. She is pursuing a Local Director of Career and Technical Education Graduate Certification at the University of Central Florida to be completed in the fall of 2025. Her most recent inquiry paper, "In what ways can a high-school engineering program engage with and draw a more diverse, inclusive, underrepresented population in STEM - specifically, females?" assisted her in earning the 2023 Dennison Teacher Researcher Excellence Award at the University of Florida's College of Education.
