Biography

Nick Swayne is the Director of External Relations and Outreach at James Madison University’s College of Education (JMU CoE), and serves as the Executive Director for 3 major projects at JMU: The Virginia/Washington D.C. FIRST LEGO League, housed at JMU since 2007; the JMU Education Support Center, which coordinates field experiences for teacher candidates in the College of Education; and the 4 Virginia Initiative, a collaboration of four Virginia universities using technology to share academic resources, strengthen research, improve access, and redesign courses. In addition, Mr. Swayne is the Principle Investigator for the Virginia Initiative for Robotics in STEM Education (VIRSE) grant, a NCLB Title 2, Part A program which, since 2007, provides professional development and educational resources to teachers and administrators. He has coached and mentored a number of FIRST robotics teams and led robotics workshops for a wide range of audiences: from middle school students at The Smithsonian’s Ripley Center, to professionals at SAIC headquarters in Northern Virginia. Mr. Swayne received his MPA at Northeastern University and is currently serves as Chair of the Harrisonburg City School Board.
