Biography

Tsu-Jae Liu began her term as president of the National Academy of Engineering on July 1, 2025. She previously served as dean of the College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, where she has been a professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences since 1996. Liu earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University. She has authored over 550 publications and holds 96 U.S. patents in the field of semiconductor devices and technology. She is a Fellow of IEEE and of the National Academy of Inventors, and she is an elected member of the NAE. Her honors include DARPA’s Significant Technical Achievement Award for co-developing the FinFET transistor design used in all modern microprocessors. She has served on a number of federal advisory committees, and she has been a Director of Intel Corp. and of MaxLinear Inc.
