Smithsonian’s Enid A. Haupt Garden Covering over four acres, the Enid A. Haupt Garden is situated between the Smithsonian Castle and Independence Avenue and has provided a welcoming respite for Smithsonian visitors since it opened in 1987 as part of the redesigned Castle quadrangle. Composed of the Parterre, the Moongate Garden, and the Fountain Garden, the Haupt Garden’s design brings together the cultures and architecture of the surrounding museums and buildings. This tour is approximately 90 minutes.

Experience portraiture beyond the frame. Our collections present people of remarkable character and achievement. These Americans—artists, politicians, scientists, inventors, activists, and performers—form our national identity. They help us understand who we are and remind us of what we can aspire to be. Get to know us at the National Portrait Gallery. We look forward to sharing the faces and stories of inspiring Americans with you.
The mission of the National Portrait Gallery is to tell the story of America by portraying the people who shape the nation’s history, development and culture. This tour is approximately 90 minutes.
Each tour includes moderate walking. Comfortable walking shoes and clothing are suggested.
Both tours will conclude with lunch at Del Mar restaurant.
